About Hanna
I love coaching mission-based leaders and teams because I share your yearning, passion and dedication for making the world a better place.
It might have all started from my original childhood career goal to reclaim strip mines, which my 8-year-old self envisioned as driving around in a VW bus full of grass seed, bunnies and deer.
Since then, while the details have changed, I’ve stayed true to my values, my heart, and my wide-ranging curiosity. Before starting my coaching business in 2004, I worked as an environmental educator, transplantation immunology researcher, women’s health advocate, community organizer, and food co-op board member, including over a decade overseeing public health programs in local and state government and in non-profit organizations.**
I’ve also gathered other life experiences along the way, including being married for nearly 20 years, parenting two kids, caring for an ill and dying parent, and recently facing a life-threatening illness myself.
So, I also understand the many of the real-world realities you face as a change maker, and as a human being. As a life-long learner and student of complex systems and human relationship dynamics, I find meaning in bringing heart, courage, integrity, and curiosity to my coaching, facilitation and training work with leaders and teams.
My values around equity, social justice, collaboration, stewardship, relationships, and co-leadership inform what types of organizations and projects I best work with, as well as the methods I use in my work with individuals and teams. I’m amazed by the creative power that exists within human relationships, so conscious and intentional design of how we work together is a hallmark of how I coach both individuals and teams.
The bottom line is: The world’s problems aren’t going to solve themselves. We need you.
I believe the greatest underutilized resource in the world is people. We’re each so valuable, with so many talents and skills that the world desperately needs, just waiting to be put to more use.
The changes that are needed in the world are also reflected in the changes that are needed to shift our organizations and systems. From my experience, I know that diversity and inclusion makes us all stronger and smarter: when we leverage the skills and talents of everyone, we all do better. And the work of creating equity in our organizations and communities requires long-term sustained focus not just on individual behaviors, but also on changing unjust systems, policies and structures.
What I’ve experienced is that most meaningful and sustainable answers to the opportunities and challenges we face as individuals, communities, organizations and systems come from within us, not from some outside “expert”. I see my role, whether as coach, facilitator, or trainer, is to listen first; and then to help surface, amplify and support the wisdom and knowledge that already exists within you and/or your team.
What I want you to know is: you can have more meaningful and long-lasting impact on what really matters to you in your work, in your organization, and in the world. And I’d love to help you do just that.
